Frederick Law Olmsted, in collaboration with Peabody & Stearns, designed the sprawling estate of John Charles Phillips in 1880. Also known as Moraine Farm, the property was planned in a picturesque style featuring a lake, stone walls, and low hedges. Several years later in 1928, a large majority of the farm was purchased by George Lewis Batchelder, Jr.

Also known as Moraine Farm, the property was planned in a picturesque style featuring a lake, stone walls, and low hedges. Several years later in 1928, a large majority of the farm was purchased by George Lewis Batchelder, Jr. The new owner sought out the expertise of the firm, and the Olmsted Brothers prepared updated plans for the residence between 1944-67. Due to strong preservation efforts, the Olmsted plan is still evident at Moraine Farm.
