synopsis

Ambrose Swasey grew up in Exeter, NH, and after making his fortune in Ohio, he later returned to Exeter, often in the summer months. Deciding it would be desirable to reclaim the river shore that was used in part as a town dump, he underwrote the effort to build a shore parkway. He engaged the Olmsted firm to accomplish this goal.
