synopsis
William M. Bullitt, a great-grandson of the original owner of Oxmoor Estate, bought the land back from other heirs between 1906-1909 and enlisted the help of the Olmsted Brothers on potential parkways. The hoped-for parkway to accompany and protect Beargrass Creek toward Oxmoor was given a place-holder job number of 01278 early on in the firm's work, but much of the thought went into it later
William M. Bullitt, a great-grandson of the original owner of Oxmoor Estate, bought the land back from other heirs between 1906-1909 and enlisted the help of the Olmsted Brothers on subdivision and potential parkways. The hoped-for parkway to accompany and protect Beargrass Creek toward Oxmoor was given a place-holder job number of 01278 early on in the firm's work, but much of the thought went into it later in the 1920s and is found in this job for W Bullitt. The land is owned under a trust that prevents selling of the land, although the State was able through eminent domain to take part of the land for Interstate Highway 64. Additional research can be done at the Filson Historical Society which holds the diaries of William Marshall Bullitt. References to the Olmsted Brothers are found in his diaries in 1927-1930, 1934-1935, 1940, 1947, and 1953.
